Homologation of motor vehicles

Homologation (technical inspection) is a technical term, which has been internationally accepted for issuing of an authorization permit by an official authority. The competent authority for Bulgaria is the "Automobile Administration" Executive Agency, which like any other organization follows strict rules and norms for establishing the presence of conditions for the issuing of the permit. The homologation of motor vehicles is known also as technical test or type approval.

The Directive of the European Community relating to homologation of new motor vehicles in the European Union are:

• Directive 2007/46/EC regarding the type approval of the type of new motor vehicles and their trailers
• Directive 2002/24/EC regarding the type approval of two- and three wheel motor vehicles

ORDINANCE No. N-3 is in force since 18th February 2013. issued by the Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria and concerns the amendments of the construction of registered motor vehicles and individual approval of motor vehicles, registered outside the member countries of the European Union or another member-country on the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
